ABOUT ME

Full disclosure --I have a bit of an identity crisis. I didn't intend on becoming a chiropractor. In fact, I didn't care much for chiropractors at one time in my life because of an experience I had with one in high school. It was the only experience I ever had with chiropractic at the time. I was experiencing some low back pain during our grueling pre-season soccer conditioning. It didn't hurt when I was just milling around, but for sprinting and long runs it was debilitating. The chiropractor I went to took some x-rays, took me into his office and explained that some of the vertebrae in my low back were rotated and I would need several adjustments to correct the problem. No exercises, no stretches, just adjustments were part of the treatment plan. That never sat well with me. I eventually got better, but unbeknownst to my chiropractor, I started stretching on the side. In retrospect, I was a talented player, but undisciplined when it came to conditioning. I came into pre-season unprepared. I wasn't ready for the work outs and they kicked my butt. My body reacted by tightening up.

"I seriously thought about becoming a strength and conditioning coach"

Once it was clear I wasn't going to become a professional soccer player traveling the world, hearing the crowd chanting my name and wearing my jersey, I decided to pursue a career helping others. In undergrad, I took great interest in exercise science. I seriously thought about becoming a strength and conditioning coach. I also thought about applying to physical therapy school. In my senior year I took a class on injury rehabilitation. I really liked the course and excelled in it. It was taught by a chiropractor who also happened to be a power-lifter. He pulled me aside one day and told me I should consider a career in health care. The seed had been planted.

If you use me as a doctor, there's something you should know about me...

I think of myself as a trainer who also happens to be a chiropractor. I will approach your case as how can I help you function better in your daily life or sport. I know what it's like to see a healthcare provider for pain and have them tell you that there is something wrong with you, you need surgery, and you probably won't be able to do this or that again. I think long and hard before telling you that you can't physically do something anymore. I try to figure out why you can't do something at the moment and then make a plan to help you reach your goals. Not my goals, your goals. So I approach patients with a heavy emphasis on restoring normal function as well as providing pain relief.
